You Can Start to learn to Think With Precision

There is a story which has been circulating on the Internet for a period of time and it is concerning Joshua's missing day of the Bible. The story first showed up in a book created by Harold Hill and made public in 1969 about a situation that purportedly happened at NASA space center. Scientists allegedly discovered there was a missing day in their calculations and a Christian on the staff told them about the missing day in the Bible which answered the question for them.

This story was sent to me by a buddy under the title: "This will give all you scientist out there something to think about." I suppose lots of people just believed it on its face value without thinking. Precision thinking on the other hand would take a little time to do a little analysis to figure out the truth.

Many individuals today appear to have often lost the power to think critically and with precision. When you apply the specific science of arithmetic to the Harold Hill story, it breaks down, because in order for NASA to uncover a missing day would necessitate a knowledge that goes back past Joshua's missing day to the definite instant that the earth started its first revolution around the sun and no-one knows that except God himself. For Christians to take any notice to such stories is nonessential because we have the truth of the Bible to stand on which hasn't ever been demonstrated to be untrue.

We don't need to discover a Noah's ark or the Ark of the Covenant or anything more. We accept God's word on the bases of faith. Not a blind faith as there is lots of evidence from satisfied prophesy, history and science to countenance the scripture beyond any doubt, but faith in God is the quintessence of Christian belief.

The ability to think with precision is something that really must be learned for the main part. It takes an active mind. A lazy mind just accepts whatever in typically thought without testing it to see if it is valid.

Through history man has trusted science to steer their convictions. The problem with that's that science is continually changing and can't be relied on for conclusive truth. The science of the 1400s, in the time of Columbus, was that the world was flat. Navigational instruments were designed on the premise that a ship could sail right off the edge into who is able to say what.

We all know better today but they did not. They might have if they read and thought the Bible which says "He sitteth on the circle of the earth" (Isaiah 40:22) that means a globe, not a flat geometrical circle as in geometry. I've always had the feeling that Christopher Columbus knew and thought that verse of Scripture. However, Columbus is a real instance of precision thinking and not depending on what is usually considered the actual facts.

Accepting everything by unquestioning trust is the lazy and easy way out; it needs no thinking. Anyone that took some time to research the effect of drugs on the body and what's costs in terms of money and loss of health over time would not dare use them , if they had a brain in their head. But instead of thinking with precision someone often yields to someone's suggestion to try drugs and feel the sense that they give and blindly are led on to the slaughter like a dumb and uninformed sheep.

There's an appropriate name for people that fail to think with precision, "sheeple". The Urban Compendium outlines sheeple as,"People unable to think for themselves; supporters; lemmings; those with no cognitive capabilities of their own." Sheeple are people who have the mind of a sheep and are led around or driven right into harm's way.

To be well placed to think with precision requires 3 things:

1. Study which produces data

2. Discipline and bravery to Decide for yourself

3. Wisdom, the capability use information to make right decisions

Study which produces knowledge:

Ignorance can never think with precision any more than a vehicle can run without gas. It takes an active and energetic mind to gain data. Lazy minds are content watching passive entertainment on tv. Active minds need to learn all achievable. While having knowledge is. A total for precision thinking, it is not all that is necessary.

Discipline and bravery to Decide for yourself:

An unruly mind with no bravery is sucked into dumb things. As an example, someone says ' "Hey man try this it'll give you a high like you never had before." "Duh, OK if you are saying so let me try it." Discipline and bravery announces, "Oh yeah, what's it?" "That isn't important just try it." "You think I am foolish; get away from me."

I don't accept things because somebody says it regardless of whether it is a famous person who is supposed to know what they're talking about. I need solid evidence before I make a decision that affects me, my health or my future. That takes discipline and courage infrequently to go in the opposite direction from the crowd.

Wisdom to make right decisions:

Wisdom is the facility to use data to make the absolute best call. If you know all of the dangers of using drugs; you know that the body requires more as time goes by to get to the same high; you know that a drug habit gets astronomically and outrageously expensive with time; you know that drugs will ultimately destroy your body, your relations and your future, but you decide to use them anyway; that is arriving at a decision immediately opposite of wisdom where no wisdom at all is used. Wisdom doesn't make dumb decisions!

It takes all three of the above collaborating to think with precision.
