Has Honor Now Become Old Fashioned and Obsolete in America?

Nathan Hale was a youngster of great honor and just 21 years old when he volunteered for the intensely threatening job of intelligence gathering for the Continental Army in the American Revolution War. He was later captured by the British and condemned to death by hanging. When questioned if he had any last words, he replied, "I only regret that I have but one life to give for my country." Hale is honored as one of America's great heroes; in 1985 he was declared the state hero of Connecticut.

Of all the things that distinguish pre-eminence, honour leads the list. The Bible says to "give honor to whom honour is due" (Romans 13:7)

Honour is to be something given when merited and not because of wealth or celebrity. Being a great musician, motion picture actor or sports hero is not grounds for honor, although it is the custom of the day. The reality is that some of the most honored today are minus character or honour. To patronize them in any way is a shameful way to bestow honour. Honor is to be given to someone based totally on the kind of person they are and not how skilled they are at a certain thing or what they appear to be.

Webster's compendium definition of honor: " official grace, repute, esteem "a powerful sense of right and wrong "compliance to actions or guidelines considered right "integrity "to bring respect. To show regard"

Here's a list of those to whom honour is due according to the Bible: The Lord (Revelation 4:11); folks (Eph. 6:2); those that announce the Word of The Lord (1Timothy 5:17); the individual that lives above reproach; (Proverbs 21:21) a gracious lady (Proverbs 11:16).

Honour means a strict conformity to what is considered morally right. There had been a point in time when honor was common, but that no longer seems to be correct. Quite to the contrary, honor is kind of rare in the modern society. It is often missing in conjugal relationship, at work and just about everywhere else.

Honour In the first languages of the Bible, both Hebrew and Greek, means something of worth while on the other hand "without honor" means no value. In God's sight only that which is honorable is counted of any specific value and all else is worthless.

A straightforward way to describe somebody of honour is: Somebody of honour is a person who is true to that which is right . In the New Age society the dictionary definition of right and wrong has become a relative issue, where there isn't a definite difference between wrong and right. Higher education regularly regards there being no absolutes. When there are no definites there is no wrong or right.

George Washington and others, the forefathers of our nation our nation, followed a code of honour. I don't set myself up as a judge of our present day legislators, but there is certainly much proof that suggests that somewhere on the way those early codes of conduct were dropped at least for the most part.

Honor is based on virtues that include :

- Trust in God
- Loyalty
- Integrity
- Sense of duty
- Self-Discipline
- Bravery
- Strength to carry on
- Responsibility
- Trustworthy

One of the greatest marks of honor is being true to one's word. Someone's word in the early developing years of America was held in the highest of regard and people who could not be trusted were counted as the lowest of society. To lie brought dreadful punishment among frontier Indian tribes.

The Judeo-Christian faith has long considered honesty as the foundation of the Christian experience, truth toward God and towards fellow man: "Who loathes an evil man but honor people who fear the Lord, who keeps his word even when it hurts." (Psalm 15:4) The pressure today to sacrifice honour for gain is great. The proof of it can be seen in everywhere around us: In the govt.; in commerce and e-commerce; in advertisement, and in the way of life of many.

Be sure if you're striving to take the high road of honour in pretty much everything,. You are going to be forsaken and even counted as bizarre by some. Nonetheless don't mind because it's the only way the God of the universe recognizes as acceptable and the only possible way he will reward.
